How to Stop Negative Thinking: How to Prevent them [2 Tips]
"In the midst of movement and chaos, keep stillness inside of you." -Deepak Chopra
Why is Self-Care Important?
It is essential to take care of yourself. Self-care helps you maintain wellness and your overall health. When we face difficulty on top of busy days, we push ourselves to continue to be productive, which can cause a strain on our mental health.
How Does Emotional Distress Affect You?
Negative thoughts tend to take over our minds causing mental pressure and emotional distress. Deepak Chopra says our stresses produce adrenaline and cortisol hormones, also known as the flight-or-fight response. The stress response results from an increase in our heart rate, high blood pressure, rapid breathing, and a decrease in blood flow. Researchers found that long-term stress puts you at higher risk for many health problems like high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes, etc.
How do You Reduce Stress?
One great way to engage in self-care is to meditate. Bob Proctor affirms we must consistently control our thoughts and emotions to eliminate negative, stressful thoughts. Bob Proctor recommends that you take at least 10 minutes of your time and find a place that’s calm and quiet. Either sit with your legs crossed with your palms resting on your knees or lie down and relax. Play soothing music, a guided meditation, or sit in silence. Our goal is to eliminate distractive thoughts by simply watching our current thoughts and emotions come and go. Continually focus on our breathing or say our mantra once we get distracted from the external environment or distracting thoughts.
How Can I Meditate Properly?
Meditation takes a lot of practice. The important thing is to have fun with meditating. If your mind starts to wander, watch your thoughts come and go, don’t analyze the future, be present. Take a deep breath and focus on your breathing, mantra, or guided meditation. Deepen your breaths, keep your mouth close, breath in through your nose and out. You may incorporate your meditation practice before you start your day, in the afternoon or as you are settling down for bed. Notice the sensations throughout your body. Observe and continue to take deep breaths and relax. Be consistent with your meditation practice. Surrender yourself to the universe and enjoy the benefits of feeling refreshed, calm, and energized. Namaste!
